The Alchemist

26 May

A while back the lovely s0starryeyed sent me The Alchemist by Paul Coelho. Which made me miss her more than normal, but also provided me with a book to read. Back then I would write down quotes I liked from what I was reading into a notebook, to be used (or not) later on in some project. In cleaning up today I found one of these notebooks with some of The Alchemist quotes in it. Since I haven’t been writing anything at all lately, and the best cure for that is to write something, here are the quotes.
Note for the reader: If an entry consisting only of book quotes doesn’t get you all hot and enticed you can instead imagine a fancy colorful “Juno was reading” banner accompanied by a Mr. Voice narration: “Once upon a time, Juno was reading The Alchemist, sent to him by his gorgeous sister” if that makes this entry more exciting for you.

“It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.”

“When each day is the same as the next, it’s because people fail to recognize the good things that happen in their lives everyday that the sun rises.”

“The boy felt jealous of the freedom of the wind, and saw that he could have the same freedom. There was nothing to hold him back except himself.”

“It’s not that I am reading the future, I am guessing at the future… based on the omens of the present. The secret is here in the present. If you pay attention to the present, you can improve upon it. And, if you improve upon the present, what comes later will also be better.”

“Most people see the world to be a threatening place, and because they do, the world turns out, indeed, to be a threatening place.”

“your eyes show the strength of your soul.”

Of all these, this is my favorite:

“When you possess great treasures within you, and try to tell others of them, seldom are you believed.”
